Now they wouldn't. Having a Jewish mother would let you be Jewish
without converting. Since  your mother assumed Christianity that point
is moot. In other words it's a way in the religion. As for Islam, if
you are born in, death is the only way out. My point was he's
recognized as Muslim by the religion itself and was a registered
Muslim in Indonesia. He has since claimed to be Christian, that's good
enough for me, but his actions tell a different story.
