The Navy is helping. We are testing a new jet fuel that 50% is made from
plants. Hey we have some flight hours now and no crashes. We are on our way!

"It boils down to the corporate bottom line."

Doesn't it always?

"Figure a way to get the oil out of the ground with fewer environmental
costs, reduce oil consumption, or at least make it too expensive to get oil
out of the ground using current methods and that solves the problem."

I believe everyone agrees with your second point, at least in theory. In
reality, it's is more like, "How can I get everyone else to reduce their oil
consumption while I don't change my lifestyle one bit?"

Your first and last options are the most interesting. At this current time,
it is hard to even mention the first option without bringing up the third
option.

Just out of curiosity, what would happen to the middle class and poor if it
oil extraction and drilling were made to expensive to be profitable?
