Good seafood, but Buckhead sucks. It's also not really a family place
and it's pretty expensive (Scott mentioned cost awareness).

For a local neighborhood feel I'd suggest trying out Virginia
Highlands. It's a little of a bar scene at night, but during the day
it's alot of boutique shopping and there are lots of good places to
eat. Too many good food places to list.

There are also alot of touristy things downtown like the World of Coke
and the Aquarium - kids would love both of those. Also the CNN Center
tour is decent, if you are there at the right time you might see a
show being taped. They are also filming a number of movies in the
downtown area right now so you may run into some of that which is
always fun. A few weeks ago Vin Diesel was filming a ne4w Fast and
Furious there. Downtown doesn't have a whole lot else beyond that
touristy stuff though.

To get a little more off the beaten path and funky I like Little 5
Points alot. It's not particularly kid friendly, but not kid averse
either. There are alot of very cool and interesting things there.
You're likely to see some street performers there and it's a frequent
spot for video shoots in Atlanta. The Vortex restaurant has awesome
burgers, perfect tater tots, and a huge beer selection. The inside is
decorated all crazy with skeletons riding motorcycles and whatnot.
The Porter is another great restaurant, but a little pricier. Front
Page News in L5P is a New Orleans themed place with great patio
seating (including fountain) and decent food. There are a number of
other great restaurants around L5P. I also live very close to it, so
I may be a bit biased.

Lastly, there is a place on Piedmont Park called Park Tavern that has
great seating right on the park. It's really the only place that
directly faces the park without some sort of impediment to your view.
You can sit and eat with a great view of the park with the Midtown
skyline behind it. Food and service there is just kinda "meh" but the
view and atmosphere are worth it.
