Actually, you wouldn't have to convert. You would be just like me, a Ba'al
Chuvah (literally master of repentance). I wasn't always orthodox.
One of the big things is we don't have to be re-circumcised. :)
(A circumcised convert has a symbolic drop of blood drawn.)

As for the Canaanites, if we go by biblical accounts for general lineage,
they were not in the same genetic line as the Jews/Arabs. But when talking
about genetic lines, we're only talking about a few genes here and there.
