It's prolly the diff between a 30 day and a 90 day...point being the
difference between .68 cents and the 30 dollars they were charging. To
check my blood sugar, using a normal meter and 12 cent test strips, 25 a
pop...now they are testing that 3-4 times a day, so that ads up. It's
insane. I told the hospital that I refuse to pay the bill until they give
me one that is reasonable. I could understand if they marked the pill up to
1.50 or 2.00, but 30.00? That is out right price gouging. To make it
worse...that .68 cents quoted above is retail...not the wholesale price they
get it at.

You are paying too much. I get a 90 day supply (180 pills) of 1000mg
Metformin at Walgreens for 12.99 which comes out to seven cents a pill.
Plavix, on the other hand, is $209 dollars for 30 pills or $6.96 per pill.
But they have to pay for their endless commercials to drum up more business.

It's not just the pills. It took the nurse three tries to get the IV in my
arm so they charged me for three IV kits - at 120 bucks each.

The use of the cath lab for an hour - 12 grand and that doesn't include the
cost of the procedure at over 20 grand, or the doctor - another 11 grand.

Total bill for the procedure - over 80 grand. Because I paid cash, they
gave me a discount which reduced the price to 44 grand. I've had this
procedure done three times in the last ten months for a total of over 132
grand plus the cost of doctors which adds another 30 grand plus.

There is no universe in which that kind of price gouging should be legal,
and no way the hospital can show their actual cost approaches their pricing.

I am hoping that I can get into the new State of California high risk
insurance pool before I need another surgery. The premiums are outrageous,
but they can't exclude based on pre-existing conditions and they certainly
won't charge over 100 grand a year.
