Hey, I'm not their accountant. I don't know what their profit and loss
statement is, I'm just saying that a very large percentage of tourism is
people wanting to see the Royal Family in action, tour their palaces, stay
at their castles, see the jewels, tour the dungeons, etc etc etc.

And while they are there, they visit pubs, spend money on souvenirs, ride
the transit system, etc etc etc.

This current "Kate and William" stuff is fantastic publicity for an entire
country who is hurting financially and needs the tourism dollar. They are
banking on the huge hordes of people who love Princess Diana and the whole
fairytale.

Some quotes:

"An estimated 600,000 tourists are expected in London this week because of
the royal wedding, and many of them are from the United States. The number
of Americans visiting London is up 20 percent this month, thanks to Prince
William and Kate Middleton, tourism experts say. "

You asked what their purpose is these days, and that's what it is.

Tourism.
