Maureen- well put.
Although I also do not like the President's stand (or stands, depending on which way the wind is blowing) on many issues, I have to say this in fairness: many U.S. presidents seem to have a narrow world view, that "they" think and act like "we" do. U.S. politicians in general seem to be naive about cultural differences - views on the value of individual life, on hostages, on keeping promises, etc. The rest of the world laughs at us. It's like we think we're going into the ring with boxing gloves, and can only punch after the bell to begin the round, and everyone else sees it as a dark alley with brass knuckles and sucker punches, any tactic that wins. -Ben > At 02:41 PM 6/4/02, Ben wrote: > > >And re: pronunciation of words - it might not matter for > >the typical person on the street, but for the President > >of the United States, it would be worth the effort to > >learn how pronounce important words like that correctly, > >IMHO. > > I don't like Shrub, Jr. very much, but I understand his problems with > words.
