States have been using sales taxes successfully for decades and seem
to be doing just fine. My home state of Florida, for example, has a
6% sales tax, and my home county of Sarasota has a 1% sales tax
(bringing our total here to 7% for new purchases). Seems to be
working just fine with only a sales tax and no income tax for either
the state or county.
