They just recently decoded the Neanderthal genome and found that European, Asian, and Indonesian/Aboriginal populations carry Neanderthal genes, while purely African groups do not. Apparently we intermingled with Neanderthal in areas where modern humans and Neanderthals coexisted. Red hair was another trait that we apparently inherited from them ;-)
