That type of treatment used to be common as rain in the south when I was
growing up.  Rarely a week passed that I wasn't punished like that - beaten
often to the point of bleeding - and no one ever questioned my parent's
rights to do so.  What makes this a public issue is that he is a judge, but
in truth, he's not doing anything that thousands of others haven't done
over the years, and that some probably continue to do.
