I love quadratic equations and I always excelled on standardized tests. Those I know from school who didn't may have succeeded in other fields, but my observation of their lives is that they struggle to understand issues like the Federal budget, or interest in mortgages, credit scores, even something as simple as sales tax. They also have trouble reading maps.
