What Sam very conveniently forgets was that after the passage of the Civil Rights Act and Richard Nixon formulating the Southern Wedge strategey, the racist southern Democrat conservatives abandoned the Democratic party en mass and joined the Republicans. And that's why you have a myriad of conservative racists who identify themselves as Republican, its become the party of racial intolerance.
