I admit that way back in the day I wrote some pretty crappy code and I think
that I have run into folks in the past who had to deal with what I wrote. I
know that when I was developing full time I went back to some old stuff I did
and laughed at myself. I rewrote some of this stuff and gave it to customers
free since it was not their fault the code sucked. IT worked, it was just not
elegant in any way. I have also been sent on contracts to go in and either fix
what someone else broke, or finish what someone else started. Either way those
jobs kind of sucked because the client was in a hurry to get the site up and
running.
What I really liked was going in and working on something that was already
worked on by a couple people, or a site that was a collaboration of a couple
developers, and they each had different writing styles and coding styles.
Since I am back into programming part time for friends, I am realizing how much
I really forgot. Just about done with my first site and I can already see how
my level is almost beginner level. But, it's coming back very very fast.
