"First reaction is to get all the guns off the streets. "

Since that would be a violation of the 2nd amendment, no.

In this specific case, gun control wouldn't have meant anything. If what I
read is true, the man wanted to kill his former boss. A knife, pipe bomb,
or bare hands would have worked just as well.

The progressives and gun control fanatics have a plan in place to disarm
the public. Since most new gun control suggestions are blatantly against
the 2nd amendment and political suicide for the proponent, they have come
up with schemes to regulate ammunition.

If Guns Do Not Kill, Tax the

What is irritating about the whole gun control issue is the attempt to
rewrite why the 2nd amendment exists.

The right to bear arms is because that’s the last form of defense against
tyranny. Not to hunt. It’s to protect yourself from the police. - Ice T

 Ice T gets it.

At this point, I am not sure an armed public can guard against tyranny
though. The government has such an advantage in technology, that an
insurrection by the people would be a rout (unless some part of the
military intervened on the behalf of the people).

One last thing on ammo:

DHS is purchasing 450 million rounds of ammo over the next five years.
After that, purchase have been classified.
The Social Security Administration is purchasing 174,000 rounds of ammo.
The National Weather Service is purchasing 46,000 rounds of hollow point
ammo.

The NWS?
