I was referring to the self described tea bag extremists. As Isaac Asimov said:

“There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has
always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant
thread winding its way through our political and cultural life,
nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "my ignorance
is just as good as your knowledge.”

I've seen this on a regular basis, the disregard for science and
technology, think of Mourdock and Akin on the Science and Technology
Subcommittee of the House. Or the support of creationism or
Intelligent Design, or disagreeing with 99% of scientists who are in a
very specialized field.

These are hallmarks of what Asimov was describing. That said I also
agree with him that it is a thread running through our democracy. But
only a thread. I am hoping that with this elections, the ignorance has
less of an impact on this country. We have too many important issues
to deal with than to listen to those who base their scientific
opinions on mythology.
