Yeah..."theoretically"...in actuality they are for big government to control
the lives of people...they are in our bedrooms, the wombs of the women of
this country, restricting sex lives, restricting medical choices, etc

"Ok, so you all realize that economic policy really hasn't changed in 20
years no matter what party runs what right?"

Only the driver and the speed of the bus change. Some go a little faster,
some a little slower. Destination is the same.

"Republicans do like to have federal government run your personal life "

Really?

Theoretically, Republicans are for smaller government. How would a smaller
government be able to run someone's personal life better than a huge
bureaucracy, which is one of the calling cards of the Democratic Party?

Notice I said theoretically. Republican say they want smaller government.
They haven't done anything in the last 40 years to actually prove that.

I know where this will end up. It will end up with contraception, abortion,
and gay marriage. Before that is thrown out, I would say that most
Republicans do not want the government to pay for contraception and
abortion. As fars as making these illegal, I doubt there is a significant
portion of the party that would care about the legality of contraception.
Certainly, a higher percentage would like to make abortion illegal, but in
this day, I doubt it is over 50%. Only the blow hards get press on this
career killing issue. On gay marriage, I'd say over half oppose it, but the
margin is shrinking. Plenty of Democrats still oppose it as well.
It's only a matter of time before this becomes a non-issue due to general
acceptance.

The irony is that people will preach that they want the government to stay
out of their bedrooms but they want government to pay for contraception and
abortions.

Ideologues are prone to mistaking their ideal for the real. Whether
consciously or not, they tend to see what they want to see and to find what
they want to find. The impulse to evaluate reality by how it vindicates the
greater theory leads to a selective use of facts, cooking the books, and
simply making things up when the facts don't cooperate. In other words,
ideologues draw conclusions prior to investigating. Smaller truths pale in
comparison with the importance of the larger "truth," the ideology. - Daniel
