If you think he is a spy, arrest him and make sure he is actually a spy and
not some innocent schlep who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's
innocent until proven guilty. When we turn that around, we become the
enemy. I didn't serve to defend our right to torture...I served to defend
the principles of freedom and justice. Also...if he is a spy, then an
artillery commander shouldn't be the ones doing the interrogation. He
should have been handed over to the MP's immediately. West not only
overstepped the boundary of law...he overstepped the boundaries of his
mission and his responsibilities as an officer. He knew he wasn't trained
to handle an interrogation. He was showboating and trying to do something
that he thogh would further his career because he was a wannabe cowboy and
wannabee John Wayne.

You have to realize, this isn't the cold war any more. Even in Panama and
Grenada we were fighting the uniformed forces of another nation. That is an
important distinction to make.

Post Somalia the rules and the way the were taught really changed.

Also if dude had a weapon he's no longer a civilian. Nor is he a combatant.
He is a spy or saboteur and the rules are different.
