See I think this more a case of a leader putting his career on the line to look out for his troops.
We're talking conflict. Due process protections do no not apply. Personally I think if we didn't have cooks, artillerymen and truck drivers conducting infantry operations this type of thing wouldn't have been happening. Your MOS gets more legal training than most because you have to treat the enemy. Mine gets more because we're expected to capture EPW. Tough situation, but not something I think most citizens should be really getting involved in unless they've been there and done that.
