Several years ago, I heard about some company was developing a virtual
projected keyboard.  It basically created a full size keyboard on any
surface.

This thread reminded me of this so I just searched for "virtual projected
keyboard".  Turns out that they are out there now.  You can read about them
at wikipedia or buy one at the other links.

A little pricey at this point.  If they catch on and work, it wouldn't be
surprising to see them continually shrunk, made more economically, and
included in portable devices.
