"He loved and had children with one of his slaves."

Maybe he fathered children by a slave. There is an alternate story that it
was his brother. Anyway, he certainly was not a big supporter of slavery.

"I have no doubt that some people felt they needed guns to stop slave
revolts,"

Or that they wanted to keep firearms out of the hands of slaves to prevent
a revolt. Consider Jefferson's words:

No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. - Thomas Jefferson

Free man indeed. Without arms, the state of freedom is debatable. Even
Ghandi got it and he certainly did not support slavery or violence:

Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look
upon the act depriving a whole nation of arms as the blackest. - Mohandas
Gandhi

"I disagree that it was the PRIMARY reason, or even a large one."

It's not debatable. Everyone knows the reason for the 2nd amendment. Read
it and the Declaration of Independence and any doubt is quickly erased.

One of the surprising privileges of intellectuals is that they are free to
be scandalously asinine without harming their reputation. - Eric Hoffer
