I wonder about the "revisionist history" thing myself but the fundamental problem is that people on most sides of an issue are attempting it all together and it changes over time so you end up with revisions of revisions and it can be hard to figure out what really happened.
And, of course, the situation back then was complex as well. I'm sure that there were probably some people who were advocating for the 2nd amendment as a means of maintaining control over slave holdings and there were some people that were advocating for it for entirely different reasons. The biggest mistake I think that people tend to make is saying "the Founding Fathers believed in X, Y and Z". They were a diverse group who argued and fought and compromised and were not always sure what they really wanted, just like today. Cheers, Judah On Tue, Jan 22, 2013 at 10:00 AM, J.J.
