Most places like restaurants, coffee shops, etc, won't hire you if you have an employment history that shows you got paid more. I ran into that back when I was unemployed after the dot com bubble burst. Places would be all excited about getting me on board when I was talking to them in person, the minute they saw how much I made as a web developer, I ceased to exist.
