I didn't see the US turning their back on anyone.

Democracy took it's course, and it seems the majority of the population
actually wanted an oppressive theocracy in charge.
This was something that the "dictators" in those countries were preventing
and keeping in check.

It's...kinda crazy how that all turned out :-\

Fight so hard for freedom, to elect an oppressive and restrictive
theocracy.
