He is taking a hit on the sequester because he hasn't learned - or had not learned at the point he suggested it - that you never prosper when you make a deal with the devil. The opposition was never going to act in good faith to achieve any kind of reasonable budget reform. They would rather destroy the country than allow Obama one day of good press.
