I'm not sure I like the precedent, but it does seem like it was inevitable.
I guess one positive is that the DNA could be used to potentially exclude some inmates from suspected crimes. A big concern would be sharing the database with outside agencies/groups/corporations without permission. Surely, a government like ours wouldn't do that. It's not like all calls are now recorded and stored along with all emails. Again, if you haven't seen it, I recommend the movie Gattaca. I sci-fi movie that is built around the premise of DNA defining a persons position in society.
