Ok Couple different issues being discussed that i think tie into one big picture point and the root of most of our disagreements on this list and in our American culture I'm general.
To begin we doubt one another's motives. Right left or middle i think as a nation we need to remember that the vast majority of us are coming from the same place, the best life for the most possible. We just have very different ideas on how to do that. Take the race card and anti race card argument Scott is making inn the other thread. The so called angry white male majority isn't the majority any more nor does it contain the largest or worst racists anymore. He made the comment, live in this decade. Can we? All of us? I'll admit i don't want belt fed machine guns at Wal-Mart if you'll admit that registration and what controls you could actually pass here will do little to allow the already dropping crime rates? Can we all stop being pie in the sky idealists and ideologues and try to find solutions? American ones? For the left, your lack of pessimism or cynicism that I can only see as a denial of reality and history and human nature has led us to near financial ruin with failed social program after failed social program and meant the destruction of the best parts of our unique American culture. Statism has failed. Horribly. You end up with murderers and despots. To the right, money isn't might isn't right. You continue to elect and support corrupt failed compassionate conservative ideas the likes of which would have your Christ in tears. You end up with murderers and despots. My new motto is "Fuck That". We have too much and too powerful of a government in some places right now. We have too weak and too uninvolved a government in others. I think we can all agree on that. If we can get the Larry's and Sam's of the world to sit in the corner for a while what are we actually capable of?
