What is scary as well, is that there is no explanation for why this massive
quantity of information was even necessary.
Activists feared that after 9/11 the US government would never relinquish
their power granted by the Patriot Act over communications ("Never let a
crisis go to waste") and would steadily expand those capabilities.
So far, they've been right.
It is worthwhile to note as well that all the surveillance, airline
restrictions etc. were all engineered and pushed on the rest of the world
by the United States ,especially the airport security changes.
But all countries had to pass and draft new Anti-Terrorism laws to fall in
line with US policies as well. The same thing happened when the US decided
to launch its "War on Drugs".
Both these actions have been clusterf*s so far.
