It's awful, but it isn't unparalleled. Total Information Awareness started
in 2002, shortly after the Sept 11th attacks. I wouldn't be surprised if
the basic plans were discussed previously but we know that they really
started getting implemented starting in 2002.

I absolutely believe that the Obama administration has pushed the agenda
and, as technology has gotten better and companies have gotten used to
complying with NSLs and other extra-judicial crap, I'm sure that it has
gotten easier and smoother to implement. But it is hardly unparalleled.
This has been going on hard core for 10 years.

People are maybe just starting to wake up to it a bit now.
