Bruce-

It all depends on where you want to go next with your career and for how
long. There appears to be plenty of work, especially government work, that
uses CF and/or PHP, which are both technologies you mentioned being
familiar with. This is likely to continue for the foreseeable future.
Meaning - you are likely to find jobs listed given your existing skill
sets. Particularly if you are able to bring your military experience to
bear, which certain jobs look for.

If I were to chose a technology to learn entirely outside the scope of what
you know I'd pick something either in mobile (smartphone) apps, or
something like Ruby on Rails. This is personal preference and what I'd aim
for next given your background.

I know you aren't all that close to Atlanta, but you also aren't all that
far away. If you ever want to have lunch (or beers) sometime shoot me an
email. I'm always happy to talk shop.
