Sam - just to be clear, the definition of 'marriage' I am referring to when
I talk about 'gay marriage' is the civil contract between 2 consenting
adults recognized by the government. I am NOT referring to the religious
ceremony - I do not believe any church should be forced to perform
ceremonies of ANY couple regardless of their sexual orientation.

So, you seem to be saying that a heterosexual couple is allowed to enter
into this 'civil contract' but a homosexual one cannot. Again, I ask
(though I am giving up hope of actually getting a straight answer - no pun
intended) how is this NOT discrimination?
