Yeah, it is about crazy. And in my view undermining the foundation of governance in the US. That shutdown was horrific. Talk about global instability? Had that gone on we would have seen what Global Instability was
And I think it is partly because the Democrats are in power, and partly because the President is a black american. I think one of Obama's biggest errors was in assuming he was dealing with rational people on the other side, and trying to use Diplomacy and compromise. This assumption that if they used their own plan, they would support it, is evidence of that in my view. They also did not get that message out enough in the Press and the media. So most people do not know of the similarities between the two plans. He has not yet come around to the fact that they hate him in particular, and will not support anything he champions. They have said this outright, that their focus is not on the country, or the world, their focus is on opposing everything Obama tries to do. They said it, they meant it, and their support base (which I think is almost half the United States, or close to it?) agree with it. Now things are swinging the opposite way and he's making statements about using executive orders to get policy through. That's not a good situation either. One might think that after Obama leaves and a more acceptable individual is in power that the GOP would be more willing to compromise. But I'm not so sure. The extremism has taken root and it is going to be difficult to get it out. The harder things get economically, the easier it is for extremist elements to win in politics.
