Not to start anything but I will never recommend another gateway. I used to work
for the govt and they had alot of gateways.. got great deals on them.. their
support and warranty service sucked. We had new gateways coming in DOA... in the
box.... some of them took 6 months to get new motherboards shipped to us so they
could be fixed and then GW wouldn't even send a tech to fix it for us.
Hopefully their service has improved in the last 4-5 years since I last worked
on one, but I vowed they would never again get a recommendation from me.

Unless you are planning on building 100 computers, you won't be able to
match the prices of pre-packaged computers. Because they got bulk
discounts on every component.

I was able to get a 1.6 ghz Dell machine (512 megs RAM, 40 gig hard
drive, Windows 2000) for ~$800 bucks about 6 months ago. If you consider
the time it would take to build it, would I have been able to match
that? ( or even come close?) Nope!

(To refer to the person who mentioned warranty... Gateway had to replace
my monitor ~10 times over the past two years; I'm sure glad I wasn't
sucking up that cost myself).
