I dont' think one gets on SS for being an alcoholic - usually its for some OTHER disability in addition to the alcoholism. I believe, that many many addicts have mental problems and self medicate to make themselves feel better - if they had proper care and prescription medication perhaps they wouldnt' be addicts. But I dont' think Alcoholism is a government funded disability - although for many health insurance companies it is.
