Every Firewire Device I have had, which is 1 ;), still required an
external power adapter.

It was a digital camera. Some things just need more power than the
computer can give, or should be giving. If I didn't have it plugged in
it would pull from the camera's batteries. Which wasn't good because it
used 6 AA.
