No an average is simply the sum of a string of numbers divided by the total number of 
scores. Part of the assumption is that a proportion of the scores are below the 
theoretical average and part are above. For instance person has the following test 
scores 60%, 50%, 60% and 70%, would result in an average of 60%, or a D+ average, 
(60+60+50+70 = 240/4 = 60).

and since when did a good proportion mean a majority. You have a habit of leaping to 
conclusions unsupported by evidence. It can lead to dangling participles and dropped 
conclusions.
