I agree except for your last point.  The default build of Outlook is
prone to virus transmission but once SP2 is installed there's very
little it can do as it prevents access to any kind of executable (which
is really anoying from a development point of view).

Sigh...this is all Steve Gibson's fault. If your computer gets infected
by a trojan. No firewall makes you safe. It's a pointless battle. It's
an extremely trivial script to use Internet Explorer to send and receive
data, right past ZA or the new Black Ice app protection. IE is the first
thing you let have access to the internet right?.........

The most effective defense against trojan's and viruses in general is to
not use Outlook. Outlook/OE is the number one vector for attack these
days by a wide margin.
