We became unofficial owners of our first greyhound today. :) We wanted a dog, and couldn't get the ones we really, really wanted like a Husky or a Golden Retriever until we buy our property, so I've been looking into adopting a greyhound. Funnily enough, even though they are racedogs, they require minimal exercise in the form of one or two walks a day, and prefer to sleep most of the time.
So, after a bit more research, we decided that they fit us perfectly right now. We found a nearby Greyhound rescue kennel, and were shown several different dogs, including the Arnold Schwartzeneger of Greyhounds, a girl called Jilly. She looked like your typical, steroid-taking, competition-winning, muscle-bound, body builder. Wow! ... But she wasn't the one we fell in love with ... Because out came Maddy, a playful, tall, clumsy, but sleek, Brindle and White girl. All that's left is to get her used to Snoopy the cat. We actually cat tested her last weekend, letting her come home and stay ... But we were so nervous about Snoopy, we took Maddy back, thinking she wasn't the one. She was so sad. :( Then we spent all week agonizing over missing her, and decided that one night was not a test enough, ... It didn't take into account how excited she was to be in a house and in new surroundings. So now she's back. She has to live muzzled for the week, in case Snoopy decides to come out from wherever he's hiding ... But he's in a better mood than he was last week. The eyes aren't quite so big. The fur isn't up on edge. Maddy is still very curious about him, but she completely ignores the bird, so we're hopeful. It's going to be fun! We am so excited to have a dog again ... And to resurrect all the dog training skills I haven't been able to use in all these years will be fun as well. Maddy's an excellent walker on a leash and heels quite nicely ... But Come, Sit and Stay aren't in her vocabulary just yet. ;) Cheers, Erika Plunge boldly into the thick of life! Each lives it, not to many is it known; and seize it where you will, it is interesting. - Goethe ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/index.cfm?forumid=5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/index.cfm?method=subscribe&forumid=5 Your ad could be here.
