Your right, the people at the top don't care so much about what it is
written in, just that it works and was done on time.

Rarely can a full application development company choose one platform
and stick with it, we have to evolve with the times.

If the company is going to be based solely on web applications then I
would choose CF. But if there was going to be compiled application
development as well, and we had to choose one and not the others, I
would choose to leave the company.

I can use only CF from a web only perspective, but the idea that one
platform will be used to develop web/desktop/server and other
application for the life of the company is just wrong.

If cost is the issue, then I can understand that, but Java is free, .NET
framework and SDK are free, you just have to have windows. CFMX does
cost money, which might be one of its cons, but the cost is very small
when you take into account all of the things that are part of the
platform/tool set/language.

Choosing the tool for the job should be done for each job, you should
not be limited to one platform/tool. If you are dealing with large
applications that will work well in .NET or Java then the cost of the
application should be high enough to purchase the needed licenses for
the tools.

I am assuming a custom job here, obviously if it is an in house product
then there are other things that are taken into consideration.

You choose the tool for the job, not the job for the tool.
