The black on red is pretty hard to read on my monitor -- not enough
contrast.

And, when you get right down to it, that much red really pulls the eye out
from the content to the borders.  Personally, with the blakc and yellow in
the upper left and the oranges in the upper right, I'd think about a desert
camo kind of color scheme for the page as a whole.

But, then again, I'm far from being a designer myself.  I can jabber for
hours about what you're doing wrong, but darned if I can tell you how to fix
it.  :-)
