Didn't say the stone, but the conservative commentators who picked it
up so fast. Another case even more egregious was the accusations by
the Washington Times last year that wildlife biologists were faking
data, when all it turned out to be was their sending test samples for
validation. Even though it was shown how incorrect the article was,
and that the validation procedures had been standard for years, there
was never any retraction. the story was picked up by a variety of
conservative republican commentators and ranted on, even after it was
shown to be a thoroughly bogus story. there have been other such
incidents as well. I just find that there is a very fundamental lack
of honesty on their part that occurs all too frequently. Its as if
they have decided that the truth is useful only if it serves to
advance the cause, otherwise prevarications serve much better.
