$2683.

I love Dell but price is always a consideration. We bought a Compaq
W6000 Dual Xeon P4 2GHz workstation with 512Mb 400Mhz RAMBUS and it's an
awesome machine for $2000 from tigerdirect.com . I hate Compaq service
but gosh that's an awesome machine at an awesome price. They're selling
the latest W6000 with dual 2.4P4 Xeons for that price right now. And it
comes with a dual-head AGP4 video card (for a single desktop spread over
two monitors) and upgraded 36.4 Gb SCSI drive.

Three votes for Dell.

I have seen some good PCs from them, but heard tough criticism over
their
workstations. Looking at the price of their dual-processor systems, it
looks
like they may be overcharging for the second processor (i.e. it costs
the
same as a similar chip in a single processor unit).

Does anyone have some more specific comments about Dell dual-processor
systems?

M

I am considering the purchase of a new workstation to do some freelance
work.

I want something that is dual processor and has the ability to expand,
i.e.
that can handle better processors as they become available.

Does anyone have a recommendation on a good provider to turn to?
