Let military service be an option, a reduced time or whatever, but also let
there be other forms of service, like relief work, policing, fire fighting,
environmental rehab, wilderness protection, forest fire fighting etc. etc.

In other words how about all the low level scut work that currently being
done by employees, be done by draftees.

Military service is not for everyone. there are some where it would be more
of a disaster to have in the military than some other service.
