So I can go on about how democracy has us under its sway as well. And
capitalism. And just about any idea that exists. Hell, ColdFusion has us under
its sway. Your description has to apply to every other concept in human
existance, not just religion.
And that's besides the point that the argument can be made that either every
movement I make is under the influence of religion or none are as I choose what
I do.

> I agree, most people are not forced to believe, but if you believe and
> follow certain religions teachings and practices, then you are operating

I think your really pushing the boundary with that argument. I vote for the
candidate I think is the best. Where's religion there? I host these lists
because I want to take care of my people. Where is religion there? I write tight
code because I want to be a professional and have a strong sense of what's
right. Where's the religion?
Your descriptions are rather black and white and I have to disagree with them.
People always have choices and if they choose to follow a religion, it's not the
religion holding sway, it's the persons choice to follow things in it.
I choose to follow the ruling that polygamy is not allowed. The religion says it
is, a Rabbinic ruling says that we shouldn't. I choose to follow the Rabbinic
ruling.
(OK, so my wife chooses for me, but the point is there is a choice that is not
influenced by religion but still has to do with it)
