I thought the exact same thing. Parts of it were interesting, but it got boring rather quickly. Of course, I haven't read LOTR since I was 13, and when I recently tried that again, it got long and tired real fast.

IT was written more like a big long poem than a story...and it just never grabbed me. -Gel -----Original Message----- From: Haggerty, Mike [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] I picked up on some summer reading this month, bought a copy of the Simarillion and loved it. The book is a history of Middle Earth from the perspective of the Elves, going from the creation stories to the end of LOTR. Then I watched FOTR, and that movie was packed with references to events from the Simarillion. Made the movie much more interesting. Anyways, I wanted to put this out there for anyone who hasn't read the book, and also ask if anyone has dabbled in any of the other Tolkien books.
