I started the Silmarillion, and enjoyed it very much, but somehow could never get past the first 3 or 4 chapters.
I love the Hobbit and LOTR, am an extreme Tolkien fan -- used to read Tolkien religiously twice a year (once every six months or so, I'd get the urge for another "fix"). I stopped for a while, and now I'm reading it to my kids, in a series of fantasies we've been doing chapter by chapter at bedtime: The Phantom Tollbooth Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone The Hobbit Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (We'll probably go on to the LOTR trilogy after we finish Harry Potter.)
