I'm in the Second Book of LOTR (The Two Towers) and have read the Hobbit
twice and now with my daughter. Isn't Simarillion just pieces of Tolkien's
writings spliced together by his son?

I never really got into that book.
IT was written more like a big long poem than a story...and it just
never grabbed me.

I picked up on some summer reading this month, bought a copy of the
Simarillion and loved it. The book is a history of Middle Earth from the
perspective of the Elves, going from the creation stories to the end of
LOTR. Then I watched FOTR, and that movie was packed with references to
events from the Simarillion. Made the movie much more interesting.

Anyways, I wanted to put this out there for anyone who hasn't read the
book, and also ask if anyone has dabbled in any of the other Tolkien
books.
