Last October, after about a dozen job changes, a friend of mine who has been
a machinist for 25 years got laid off from his job running a shop. If you
know anything about that business you know it's been suffering for a long
time like our business is suffering now. He decided to switch careers. He's
in apprenticeship to become a home inspector for mortgage companies and he
expects to be making $250k/yr by this time next year. We'll see. I'm
thinking with interest rates on the way back up again he may have just
missed the bus in time to watch a surplus of licensed and experienced home
inspectors looking for other work . . .
