This recipe came out of my plan to infuse vodka for friends for Christmas.
I first used pineapple and it came out lovely.  Just hacked up a pineapple
and soaked in a 1.75 L bottle of vodka for a week.  However, my mixed berry
lot didn't fare quite so well.  It sort of tasted like cherry cough syrup.
So I added some simple syrup.  Now it tastes like a really hip martini.

Fruitini's of the Forest

1 1.75 liter of vodka, preferably something smooth - i used skyy

4 bags assorted frozen berries - alternatively go to costco and get 1 bag
mixed berries.  I am sure fresh would be great, but the texture is going to
get ruined anyway and fresh isnt' avaialable in anchorage in september.

1 cup sugar

1 cup water

Large jar with watertight lid

Put berries in jar, pour vodka over.  If it looks like you have too many
berries, then you have enough.  Let sit for one week, turning and shaking
jar daily.  After a week, taste the stuff.  It should be deep red and taste
like cherry cough syrup.    If not let it rest for a couple more days.  When
the cough syrup is ready, strain into a large bowl.  You can use a screen
strainer or you can use filter paper or paper towels.  Mix 1 cup sugar and 1
cup water in a saucepan and heat until sugar is just dissolved.  Pour into
cherry cough syrup.

Bottle fruitini's and serve chilled, straight.
