make news where none exists, in order to guide our country in the right
direction."
To paraphrase my journalism instructor in college,; " While ethics, objectivity,
and accuracy is the highest calling of the journalist, compromises must be made
by those organizations with too much space to fill with little to fill it with."
Television, and that includes television newscasts, have as their first priority
entertainment. Objectivity, accuracy are subverted by editorial opinion of
those who have no knowledge of the subject at hand.
We have CNN who was caught modifying their reporting in order to keep
journalists in some countries, especially Arab countries. We have Fox, who
employs people like O'Reilly, Geraldo and the ex-colonel and ex-convict Oliver
North. We have the New York Times, with reporters that completely fabricate
stories, interviews and publish them as fact. We have an elected (by the
Supreme court, of course) administration that blatantly lied as justification
for an invasion of Iraq. The re-broadcast last night of the Secretary of State,
Colin Powell's speech and "evidence" to the United Nations, and the speeches by
the barricaded Vice President concerning the "tons of nerve agents and other
weapons of mass destruction" have proven upon later examination and subsequent
events to have been complete fabrications. Even in current campaign speeches,
the President is sticking to that story, and is being laughed at by any
intelligent person who has been following the stories. With government support,
big business invades, and pillages many foreign and sovereign countries and it
is no wonder why they hate Americans. Not only the middle east, but South and
Central America, Africa, and many European countries. Defenders of the
administration, ignore the lies, favoritism, and deceptions and instead try to
deflect the criticism by pointing at the previous president and his sexual
activities. In spite of their continual and well funded campaign of personal
attacks, buying of witnesses, etc, they still never were able to come up with
any dirt other than the personal stuff, and nothing dirty about how he ran the
country.
Does my looking at all this perversion of journalism make me a liberal? I think
not. But I do say, if I can see it, why can't others? How long will the state
of denial last?
