admittedly difficult for age 50+ old-timer slide-rule geeks to get work
anyway these days, but I've heard off and on that the Rochester market
is not at all good. It'd probably be good to line up some telecommuting
or off-site contract work initially, since it might take a while to
establish yourself up there. The only market I've heard that's worse
than that is Kansas City. Have you looked at Syracuse? It's about 80
miles away, and might have a better market.
On another note, it's gorgeous in the winter, snow up to your eyeballs.
